Doris Ann Chance

Doris Ann Chance, 84, of Jonesboro, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014, at her daughter's home in Jackson, Tennessee. Doris was born on June 16, 1930, in Wichita, Kansas, to Mr. & Mrs. L. E. Blank. She graduated from East High School in Wichita in 1948 and married William G. Chance on September 1, 1948. Mrs. Chance worked diligently to put her husband through college, graduate school, and then on to obtain his Ph. D in Education. They moved with their family to Jonesboro in 1965 so Dr. Chance could join the faculty at Arkansas State University.

Mrs. Chance began working for the Jonesboro Public School System in various positions throughout the district, but her greatest love was working at the Kindergarten Center where she continued until her retirement. She loved to read, do needlework, and volunteered at the Helping Hands Food Pantry for many years. She was involved in many groups at Fisher Street United Methodist Church and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dr. W. G. Chance, a daughter Nancy Chance, and her son-in-law Cary Gillespie. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law:Greg and Cindy Chance of Jonesboro, her daughter Rebetta Gillespie of Jackson, TN, and twin grandsons Jeremy Gillespie of Jonesboro and Cameron Gillespie of Sylacauga, AL.

Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 29th at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Cemetery at 11:00a.m. with Rev. Paul Horner officiating. There will be no visitation.
