Donald Marlin Berry, of Jonesboro, died Monday at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Jonesboro, he was a retired purchasing agent from St. Bernard’s Medical Center and a member of Southwest Church of Christ.
He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion, was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having been a past post commander. Mr. Berry was active in the Northeast Arkansas Bird Hunters Association and raised National Bird Dog champions. He was a medalist in the Senior Citizens Olympics and played for the Chicago White Sox in the minor league.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey & Mamie Baugh Berry; a sister, Nina Oden; and a brother, Dewayne Berry.
Mr. Berry is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn Berry of the home; 2 sons, Ray Berry and his wife Shelia, of Mountain Home; Chuck Keller, of Los Angeles, California; 6 daughters and their husbands, Donna & Jimmy Weaver, Calico Rock; Ann & Terry Smith, Bono; Rhonda & Donnie Wells, Vilonia; Marsha & Michael Stefka, Little Rock; Kathy & Michael Hahn, Gulf Shores, Alabama; Cheryl & Danny Reeves, Jonesboro; a brother, Darrell Berry, Bono; a sister, Joan Richey, Bono; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jimmy Adcox officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Chance Smith, Jeffrey Wells, Daniel Berry, Chris Hurley, Benton Hardin, Christopher Reeves, Sommer Smith, Chelsey Reeves, and Chloe Reeves.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jason Casey & Staff, Penny Best, Ben Smith, George Surbaugh, Kenneth Pinchback, American Legion Post 21/Pool Players, and Northeast Arkansas Bird Hunters Association.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
