Loyd
Don Velton Loyd, died peacefully at his home in Jonesboro at the age of 56, of complications related to heart disease and diabetes.
He was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and was a 1970 graduate of Hillcrest High School, in Memphis, Tenn. He served a two year mission in Ecuador for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the early 1970’s.
He earned his Respiratory Therapist Degree from Northwest Community College in Southaven, Mississippi, and his BSN in Nursing in 1984 from the University of Louisiana, Monroe. In 1986, he earned his MSN in anesthesia from Xavier University and Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He was employed as CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, and nine years at St. Bernard's Medical Center until his retirement in 2002. He was the Past Scout Master, Troop 218 and a member of the LDS Church
Survived by his wife of 32 years, Glenda Coleman Loyd of the home. Three sons; Blair Loyd of San Antonio, Texas, Judd Loyd of Jonesboro and Lexx Loyd and wife Robin of Jonesboro. One daughter, Tessa Loyd of Conway, Arkansas. Six grandchildren Makenzie, Kayleigh, Aidan, Ethan, Jaxon Muir and Samantha Loyd.
Parents, A.G. and Rose Loyd of Southaven, Mississippi, One brother Dr. Richard Loyd and wife Kathy of Athens, Georgia. Two sister, Dona Bates of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and Patricia Buchanan of Niceville, Florida. One brother-in-law Richard Coleman and wife Robin of Memphis, Tenn., and one sister-in-law Marty Moore of Opelika, Al. A host of nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.
He will be remembered for his love of duck hunting, guns, Oklahoma Football, genealogy, traveling, landscaping, his farm and critters, fishing the Spring River and his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his biological father, Don V. Peddycoart, Sr.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday October 15, 2008 at the Jonesboro Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Jonathan Mobley presiding, with Robin Payne and Robert Stephens conducting. Burial will be a Trinity Cemetery in Bono, Arkansas Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Tuesday October 14, 2008 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Pallbearers will be Gary Meeker, Larry Fortenberry, Dick Glascock, Richard Loyd, Richard Coleman, Coleman Moore and Jason Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Watkins, Buddy Shanks, Billy Shanks John Babbitt, Greg Coleman, Quincy Coleman, Allen Carter and Dr. Claiborne Moseley.
