Don Mitchell

Don Mitchell of Jonesboro passed from this life Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born to the late Odis and Jessie Mitchell in Wynne on March 14, 1948.

Don has briefly lived in Jonesboro after spending 30 plus years residing in West Monroe, Louisiana. He was a retired Engineer from the telecommunication industry after working for Southwestern Bell. He enjoyed doing volunteer work, such as helping out with the local food bank, building homes for Habitat for Humanity. Don enjoyed theater where he directed plays and acted as well. Don was a long time member of the Rotary Club. Most of all Don enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his two grandsons, Matthew and Avery Posey.

In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Mitchell, sisters, Barbara Moody and Connie Sutton; and brothers, Ricky Mitchell, David Mitchell, and Roy Mitchell.

Don is survived by his daughter, Crystal (Jonathan) Posey of Jonesboro; three sisters, Annette Willis of Blue Mountain, MS, Vera (Brian) Brundige of New Market, TN, and Betty Busby of Forrest City, AR; grandchildren, Matthew and Avery Posey; and a multitude of nieces and nephews and a host of honorary family members.

A visitation will be from 9 – 10:30 am Friday, July 10, 2020 at Emerson Funeral Home.

A funeral service will follow the visitation at 10:30 am Friday, July 10, 2020 at Emerson Funeral Home with Kelly Brown officiating. Burial to take place a Birdeye Veterans’ Cemetery.
