Don Coggin

March 21, 1944 — February 14, 2015

Don Coggin, 70, of Bay, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Born in Monette, Don lived several years in Jonesboro and was a 1962 graduate of Jonesboro High School. He lived 28 years in Ozark Acres before moving to Bay in 2011. Don was a 6-year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and a member of the Williford Church of Christ where he served as church treasurer.

Don was a retired Arkansas State Police Highway Patrol Post Sergeant with 29 1/2 years of service. Don was commissioned as a state trooper in September 1966 and was assigned to Pulaski County. He was later assigned to Clay County and then Craighead County before being promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Troop B in Newport. He was sergeant over Lawrence, Sharp, Fulton and Izard counties. Don was a member of the Arkansas State Police Association and the ASP Retirees Association.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Paul Coggin; his mother and step father: Mildred Hill Coggin Carpenter and Robert Carpenter, and a son Mark.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Berry Coggin of the home;
daughter and son-in-law: Carrie and Daniel Thomas of Bay;
Step mother, Bonnie Coggin of Michie, Tennessee;
2 grandchildren: Chloe Thomas and Jake Thomas; and
his best friend, Ron and Sharon Winn of Jonesboro.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Mark Brewer officiating. Burial with Police Honors will follow in Trinity Cemetery near Bono.

Nephews and Brothers-in-law will serve as active pallbearers. Members of the Arkansas State Police Honor Guard and ASP retirees will be honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12 noon until service time in Emerson Chapel.
