Don Ellis Berry

September 12, 1940 — January 7, 2019

Don Berry, 78, of Jonesboro died Monday, January 7, 2019 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born in Walnut Ridge on September 12, 1940. Don lived most of his adult life in Jonesboro. He retired from the grocery business as a produce manager. Don was an avid baseball fan and his favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. Don also enjoyed watching old TV westerns and taking care of his yard and flowers. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Robie and Mildred Berry; and his late wife, Brenda Berry.

Survivors are his wife of two years and two months, Adena Berry of Jonesboro; brothers, Dr. Tony Berry (Ann) of Hardy and Rev. Ty Berry (Judy) of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister-in-laws, Dolores Busby of Memphis, Carolyn Whitten, and Debbie Copeland both of Jonesboro. Don also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Don was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church where he was an active member of his Sunday School Class. He was a man of strong spiritual faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. He considered his daily 5:00 a.m. walks a refreshing time to commune with God. His daily study of reading passages from the Bible and writing notes of reflection brought him comfort and peace. He made practical application of his Bible study by doing kind acts of compassion for others. Jesus said to his disciples, “You are the salt of the Earth”. Don knew that salt could make food taste better. He was to life what salt was to food; he made life taste better.

The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. up until the start of the service on Saturday, January 12, 2019.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Emerson Funeral Home with Dr. Stan Ballard officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. The honorary pallbearers will be Don’s Sunday School Class, The Men 4.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Nettleton Baptist Church, 7001 E. Johnson Avenue, Jonesboro, AR 72401.
