D.L. Vancleve

July 19, 1921 — February 9, 2016

D.L. Van Cleve, 94, of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. Affectionately referred to as “Van”, he was born in Blytheville, Arkansas on July 19, 1921, and was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro. He enlisted into the U.S. Army and served his country with the 153rd Infantry in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. D.L. worked for Southwestern Bell, retiring in 1986 after 38 years of service. He was a Christian, loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, always putting others before himself. D.L. was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Birdie Bently Van Cleve; wife of 54 years, Virginia; daughter Fonja; brothers, Joe Van Cleve and Wilburn Van Cleve and son by marriage, Doug Little. Van is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Mary Frances Van Cleve; daughter Tarsa and husband, Carl Risinger of Round Rock, TX. He was lovingly known as Pappa to Jason Risinger and wife Emily and children Carlton, Maddux and Ellis; Daryl, Shawn and Kyle Risinger and their families; Briggs Bruton and wife JJ and son Mac; Lane Bruton and daughter Zoe; Tinley and Parker Washington and Whitney Whelchel . Mary Frances’ family called him Pop and he was especially loved by Louise Little, Joe and Pam Little and their extended families.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Emerson’s Funeral Home in the Chapel. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 pm with Reverend Mike Martin and Dr. Archie Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Briggs Bruton, Jason Risinger, Parker Washington, Jay Little, Keith Little and Aaron Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of The Wisdom Seekers Class of Central Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Baptist Church - The Journey Campus or to St. Bernard’s Hospice Care.
