Dick Clay

“I’m Dick Clay, and that’s sports!” was the iconic signoff he used for 30 years as Sports Director and Anchor for KAIT Television. For a generation, he was the face of local sports in Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri.
Dickie passed away Wednesday August 6th at the UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock at 78 years old.

To thousands, Dickie will be remembered as a noted broadcaster and that he was. But to those fortunate enough to have known him personally, he was a kind and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor, forever dedicated to his family and friends.

Dick Clay loved life and he made the most of every day. He loved ASU sports as well as the many local teams he loyally covered. We all remember “Football Friday Nights” when Dick would proclaim a close game a real “Barnburner”.
After his 30 year stint at KAIT, Dick began to travel across the mid south on hunting and fishing trips, armed not with a rifle or fishing rod, but a camera and he brought those adventures into our homes with his “Dick Clay Sports Magazine”.

Dickie was preceded in death by his parents. Survives includes his wife Pat; Son Jason (Tami); Grandsons Taylor and Hunter of Arlington, TN; A sister Delphia Anderson (Roger) of Murfreesboro, TN; A brother Donald Clay (Mary Carolyn) of Manchester, TN; and loving nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel. There will be no service and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
