Denver Ray Raney

Denver Ray Raney, 80, of Jonesboro, died Sunday at Rose Skilcare Nursing Center.

Born in Piggott, Denver moved to Jonesboro in 1944 and worked 25 years for Laddie King’s Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Shop. He later worked as a machinist for Fields Machine Shop and Hughey’s Automotive before operating Denver’s #1 Drive Shaft in Jonesboro for several years before his retirement.

Denver was a member of Old Enterprise General Baptist Church and was an ordained minister of the General Baptist faith and of the Lord for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Oleva Faye Raney; his parents: John W. and Fannie Belle Perigan Raney; and eleven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include:

1 Daughter: Kala Raney of Jonesboro;

1 Grandson and his wife: Michael Shane and Stephanie Jones of Pocahontas;

2 Great grandsons: Michael Cody Jones and Christopher Matthew McGinnis;

1 Great Granddaughter: Alexandra Oleva Jones;

4 Step great grandchildren;

1 Sister: Joyce Tate; and

Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Marion Stringer officiating. Burial will follow in Old Enterprise Cemetery with Rev. Roscoe Gray officiating.

Pallbearers include: Michael Shane Jones, Newton “Peanut” Phillips, Dallas Hanners, Danny Baldridge, Kenny Adams, and Tommy Cox.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home.
