Dempsey Croft, 95, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
Dempsey was a lifetime resident of the Jonesboro area. As a young man he proudly served our country with the Army Air Corp. He was a hard working family man and looked forward to summer vacations each year with his wife and three children. He also enjoyed assisting in coaching his son's little league baseball teams for many years. He was retired from Hytrol Conveyor Company, and was a member of Central Baptist Church where he was in the Bill Nolte Men’s Sunday School Class. After retirement Dempsey cared for his beautiful rose and vegetable gardens. He loved bird watching, especially his Martin houses that he kept in his backyard. He was an avid walker who would get up early every morning and set all his neighbor's newspapers on their front steps. He was known for his dry wit and one-liners. The love and dedication he had for his family will be missed but never forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara Edwards Croft; siblings, Clara Croft, Erman Croft, Glaciel Jenkins, Thomas Croft, Hardy Croft, Edward Croft, Glenda Cooper Farrar, Herbert Croft, Margaret Glasgow, Erma Smith, Wayland Croft and Jimmy Croft.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Leoda Diggs Croft of Jonesboro; two Daughters, Paulette Tull (Tom) and Pam Brunkhorst of Jonesboro; Son, Keith Croft (Tracy) of Nashville, TN; Sister, Mary Dacus of Hemet, CA; Grandchildren, Preston Hinrichs, Claire Brown (Leon), Kevin Feild, Sara Jane Nichols, Courtney Crawford (Mark), Cayce Croft, John Tull and Spencer Tull (Cindy); Great Grandchildren, Olivia Brown, Sara Kate Brown, Parker Hinrichs, Hayden Feild, Cooper Nichols, Mark Crawford IV, Ashley Brunkhorst, Isabella Tull and Abby Tull; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 3pm in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Larry Bailey officiating. Interment will directly follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery with military honors. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the Nolte Men’s Class at Central Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 1:30pm until service time, Saturday in the Emerson Memorial Chapel.
