Deloris Ruth Sawyer

Deloris Ruth Sawyer, 71 of Queen City, Texas, died Saturday at St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. Born in Mississippi, she had lived in Queen City since 1981. She was a member of Beulahland Baptist Church. She loved fishing and playing in bowling tournaments.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Bill Sawyer of the home; brother, James Murphy, Blytheville; granddaughter, Whitney Gifford; 3 step-children, Connie (Donnie) Johnson, Mississippi, Allen (Stephanie) Sawyer, Jonesboro, Shelly Ashby, Atlanta, Texas; step-grandchildren, Kelsey Johnson, Austin Sawyer, Tyler Sawyer; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete & Vera Cartwright Murphy; son, Tommy Gifford; brother, Billy Murphy.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jeff Watson and Ken Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Larry Perkins, Tom Jaco, Frank Kirby, Michael Johnson, Leroy Gifford, and Danny Murphy.

Visitation will be Tuesday 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
