Debra Denice “Oakes” Martinez, 62, of Jonesboro passed away on June 13, 2018 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.  She was born on January 10, 1956 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to loving parents Shelley and Dolly Oakes. Debra was preceded in death by her mother, Dolly and is survived by her father, Shelley.

Debra was an avid reader, writer, classically trained in sarcasm and extreme witticism.  She was most fond of cracking jokes and had a multitude of country wisdom and quotes at her disposal for any occasion, ready to dispense with the slightest provocation or invitation.  She loved to crochet and knit.  Her most favorite pastime was spending time with her children, grandchildren and her beloved daddy.

Debra retired from Skilled Care Nursing and Health Center in 1986.  She spent her remaining days providing a home for children and grandchildren. This is the time she enjoyed most, being with family.

Debra is survived by her daughter, Deva Martinez of Morehead City, North Carolina; son Robert (Bobby) Martinez; brothers, Carlos (Pam) Oakes; Doug (Tonda) Oakes all of Jonesboro; Chris (April) Oakes; sister, Shelley (Mark) South all of Paragould.

Debra is survived by five beautiful grandchildren; Madison Manley, Olivia Manley, Andrew Martinez, Lilly Martinez and Leia Martinez. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews that enjoyed their Aunt Debbie for her offbeat sense of humor and willing grin.  Several aunts, cousins and beloved friends will be left behind as well.

Funeral services will be 11:00 Friday, June 15, 2018 at Emerson Memorial Chapel Patrick Magel officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery with Chris Oakes, Doug Oakes, Carlos Oakes, Stephen Oakes, Madison Manley and Robert Martinez serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time on Friday at Emerson Memorial Chapel
