David Watkins

December 5, 1940 — January 26, 2012

David Watkins, 71, of Monette and Jonesboro, died Thursday, January 26 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
Born December 5, 1940 near Bay, he was a beloved member of the Body of Christ and reaffirmed his faith on January 22, 2012 through the public profession of baptism when he rededicated himself as a follower of Jesus Christ.
A cotton farmer in the Macey and Childress communities, Watkins was an avid duck hunter, marble collector and gardener. He was a member of the Macey Cemetery Board of Directors. He received an honorable discharge from the Arkansas National Guard serving his country in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He enjoyed studying the history of the U.S. Armed Forces and was an antique car buff.
Survivors include his dedicated wife, Margaret Watkins of the home; one son and daughter-in-law Steve and Dana Watkins of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Adam, Emma and Sophie Watkins, all of Jonesboro; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, all of Jonesboro, Ina and Charles Dent; Faye and E.J. Cunningham and Patricia and Ray Parsons; and sisters-in-law, Jimmie Hout of Paragould and Neala Hoch of Clermont, Fla.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial services at 11, at Emerson Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Macey Cemetery fund, or to St. Bernard’s Hospice House.
