David Allen Smith, 61, left this earth for his Heavenly home on November 30, 2021 at St. Bernard’s hospital. A lifelong resident of Lake City, David was born May 3, 1960 to Wayne and Lucille Smith in Jonesboro. He was raised by his mother and grandparents, Lloyd and Mary Wallace. David married the love of his life, Roxann Smith, on February 2, 2002. The two spent 19 wonderful years together, always by each other’s sides.
David and Roxann never had any children of their own together, David never having children of his own at all, so David helped raise his many nieces and nephews along the way. As they all got older and had children of their own, David’s great nieces and nephews were raised as his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Day Day”. They were his pride and joy, and the reason he fought to stay as long as he could. In addition to his parents, David is proceeded in death by; father-in-law, Larry Moon; grandparents, Lloyd and Mary Wallace; aunt, Flo Johnson; uncle, James Wallace; aunt, Rachel Baker; and uncle, Jerry Wallace, and sister-in-law, Danette Wixson.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Newton Smith of the home; one sister, Brenda Polston of Lake City; two cousins, Diane Olive of Lake City and Sandy Wheeley (Buddy) of Valley View; mother-in-law, Jean Moon of Lake City; sister-in-law, Angie Calahan (Doug) of Lake City; Susie Pilcher of Lake City; “grandkids,” Fallyn Bickerstaff (Roger) of Vancleave, Mississippi;;Ally Davis of Lake City; Kenadi Calahan of Lake City; Matthew Pilcher of Lake City; Shelby Gilley of Lake City; seven great grandchildren; Rylan, Finlee, Remi Cole, Hayes, Nash, Beckham, and his bonus grandchild Brinlee.
