David Parks Martin died on May 21, 2022. He was born to Harry and Florence Martin on August 13, 1932 in Memphis, Tennessee.
David graduated from the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. It was at the University of Georgia that he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Perry Martin. David enjoyed many years of success in business and in life. He started David Martin, Inc., in Jonesboro, Arkansas where he and Barbara ran a thriving contract office furniture and residential furniture showroom for many years until they retired.
David was a community leader, active in both First Presbyterian Church and at Cornerstone Methodist. David was on the board of the Arkansas Community Foundation and was instrumental in elevating the Jonesboro Humane Society. David was an avid supporter of pet adoption and loved his dogs, Sophie, Sarah Palin, and Sissy.
A true Renaissance Man, he was always the best dressed gentleman in the room. He was a history buff and special interest in all WWII history and especially enjoyed his trip to Normandy, France. David’s many interest and hobbies such as his yearly fishing trips to Canada with friends and family, coin and stamp collecting, model building, attending theater and movies, sustantained him throughout his long life. David never met a stranger and was beloved by all who knew him. His quick wit and turn of phrase will be treasured forever. He has been heard countless times saying: “Come after breakfast, bring your own lunch, and leave before dinner!”
David leaves his wife of 68 years, Barbara, and his children, David Martin, Jr. (Mary Nell Martin) of Plano, TX, Jim Martin of Panama City Beach, Florida and the apple of his eye, Leigh Martin (Margo Metz) of Memphis, Tennessee. He leaves his grandchildren, Hannah Martin, Heather Thrash, Grant Martin and Greer Martin who cherished their Pop dearly. David has two great grandchildren, Charley Martin and Pierce Martin. David leaves a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers and sisters and his grandson, James Martin.
A reception honoring David will be held on Friday, May 27 th from four until six in the afternoon at the Jonesboro Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Methodist Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas of the charity of your choice.
David’s favorite day of the year was opening day of the SEC college football season. GO DAWGS
