David Laroy Holbrook, age 85, died December 2, 2017 at Craighead Nursing Center. Born and raised at Beedeville, Arkansas where he graduated from high school in 1951. He was active in sports and was captain of his high school basketball team. He joined the US Air Force in 1952 where he served as a flight rescue medic in Germany for four years during the Korean War. He continued to play basketball for his squadron’s team traveling to other US bases. He graduated from Fern Eaton Barber College in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1956. He worked at City Water & Light and Holbrook Brother’s Barber Shop while attending Arkansas State College. He graduated in 1960 with a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling. He was a guidance counselor at Douglas MacArthur Junior High School 1965 to 1976 and Jonesboro High School 1976 to 1978. He was also Trade & Industry Coordinator – Vocational Education at Jonesboro High School for 13 years. He spent his entire teaching career employed by the Jonesboro Public School system. He retired in 1991. He enjoyed all sports and loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Elmer and Ann Elizabeth Holbrook, his wife of 60 years, Shirley Sue Williamson Holbrook; three brothers, James Clifton Holbrook; Burley Steven Holbrook and Norman Glenn Holbrook; one sister, Mildred Holbrook Arnett and one grandson, Matthew Scott Holbrook.
He is survived by his children David Scott Holbrook; Deena Sue Toalson (Patrick) and Donna Lisa Miller. Grandchildren: Christopher Toalson (Carly), Lauren Desert (Peter), Erin Day (Phil), Christopher Miller, Lindi Miller and his great grandchildren Xavier Holbrook and Harlee Holbrook, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with David Gibson and Boyce Arnett officiating. Interment will take place at Eight Mile Cemetery near Beedeville, Arkansas.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time in the Emerson Memorial Chapel.
In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that you consider the Paragould Children’s Home or Grace Point Church of Christ Building Fund.
