Dalton Wayne “Sonny” Timmons, 82, of Salem, AR, passed away on August 5, 2026, at Fulton County Hospital. Sonny was born in Dell, AR, on February 19, 1944, to the late William and Ila Mae Timmons. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his brothers, Buck Timmons, Gene Timmons, Bob Timmons, and Harold Timmons, and his sister, Ruth Nichols.
Sonny graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1962. In 1968, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict. In 1970, Sonny moved to Northeast Arkansas, where he worked as a mechanic for several years before getting into the trucking industry. Outside of work, Sonny enjoyed watching western movies, NASCAR races, deep frying turkeys, drag racing and competing in car shows. Sonny loved the sound of a powerful engine, and the excitement of drag racing cars down the track. He enjoyed the fellowship and the memories made along the way.
Sonny is survived by his sons, Wayne Timmons (Jennifer) and Shane Timmons (Julie) both of Jonesboro; daughter, Cindy Owen (Murphy) of Brookland; sisters, Serena Jones (Don) of Little Rock and Doris Nall of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Ashley (CJ), Justice, Ila Beth, Eden, Fuller, Ireland, Zac (Tanay), Macy (Billy), Tori (Matthew), Jordan, and Presley; great-grandchildren, Jack, Max, Brayden, Oliver, LeBron, Kobe, Peyton, Monroe, and Leighton; the mother of his children, Shirley Timmons; and his longtime companion, Linda Kuhnke
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on August 9, 2026, at Emerson Funeral Home with Jimmie Smith officiating. A visitation will precede the service from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Woods Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jordan Owen, Zac Timmons, Justice Timmons, Fuller Timmons, CJ Smith, and Matthew Cox.
