Dalton C. Bess

April 18, 1932 — May 1, 2012

Dalton C. Bess, 80, of Jonesboro died Tuesday May 1, at N.E.A. Baptist Hospital. He was born in Chaffee, Missouri and had lived in Jonesboro for 2 and one half years, moving here from St. Louis and Light, Arkansas area. He was a retired truck driver for Davis Trucking. Was a member of the teamsters # 688 for over 60 years, member of the Masonic Lodge #460 for 50 years and the Scottish Rite Valley of Missouri. He was an Army Korean Veteran and of the Pentecostal faith. He loved to work in the garden, loved cats and birds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Cora Duke Bess, brothers, Raymond and Delton Duke and Tilmond Baker. Sister, Modina Myers.

Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lavern Bess of the home.

Sister, Alma V. Gehlert of Florissant, Missouri.

Several nieces and nephews that were the love of his life, especially, David Baker. He also loved the neighbor boys.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday May 4, 2012 at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Russell Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.

Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time at Emerson Memorial Chapel.

Active pallbearers will be Glenn Newberry, Buford Newberry, Conrad Newberry and Terry Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Williams and Mark Creel.
