D. L. Bailey

D. L. Bailey, 82, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at his home. He had lived in Jonesboro for the past 11 years, moving here from West Helena/Helena area. He was a member of the Cleburne Avenue Presbyterian Church. D. L. graduated from Blytheville High School and received his BS in Journalism from Arkansas State University. While at Arkansas State he was one of the founders of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He worked in the news industry in Florida, Missouri and Arkansas. He served as the editor for the Twin City Tribune from 1969 – 1983 in West Helena. In 1984 he founded the Phillips County Progress and was the publisher, retiring in 2003. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. D.L. was preceded in death by children, Fran Tomlinson and Don Henderson, his parents, one brother and one sister.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Patricia Bailey of the home; sons, Arthur Henderson of Ovett, Mississippi; Beau Henderson (Sandie) of Jonesboro; David Bailey (Melissa) of Hendersonville, Tennessee; daughter, Tammie Crawford (Frank) of the home; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:00 Friday morning, September, 11, 2015 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye, near Cherry Valley, Arkansas. There will be no public visitation.
