Curtis Murphy Bennett

August 17, 1944 — October 13, 2024

Curtis Murphy Bennett, 80, of Jonesboro, departed this life at his home on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Born on August 17, 1944, in Jonesboro to the late Cecil and Leda Bennett, Murphy lived a full life marked by hard work, family, and a love for the outdoors.

He spent his career as a dedicated truck driver for Consolidated Freightways, proudly supporting his family. Murphy was also a man of deep faith and a loyal member of Friendly Hope Baptist Church in Jonesboro. A committed Mason, he was a member of Masonic Lodge #129, where he formed lasting bonds with his fellow brethren.

Murphy’s true passion lay in the simplicity of nature. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting and in his younger years could often be found running his beloved beagles in search of rabbits or deer, relishing the joy of the chase. He never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite sports team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Yet, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, making lasting memories filled with love and laughter.

In addition to his parents, Murphy was preceded in death by two sons, Keith Bennett and Steve Carnathan.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving family: his son, Tyler Bennett (Karen) of Russellville, AR; his daughter, April Bennett (Randy) of Ash Flat; his brother, Gayland Bennett (Cheryl) of Jonesboro; his sister, Dorothy Robertson of Jonesboro; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. The celebration of Murphy’s life will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Friendly Hope Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Pierce Cemetery.
