Connie Jo Hicks, 72, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Sunday, September 10, 2023. She was born to the late Joe and Joyce Smith on March 26, 1951 in Bono.
Connie was a lifelong Westside Warrior, she attended Westside for all 12 grades and taught there for 32 years. She was a Kindergarten and 1st grade teacher for most of her career and was responsible for starting the Pre-K program at Westside Elementary School. Connie’s students held a special place in her heart and she loved them like they were her own children.
Connie was a member of the Church of God 7th Day in Jonesboro. Faith was important to Connie and she loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a member of the Busy Ladies of Bono and she enjoyed taking part in serving her community through the organization’s events like sending care packages to soldiers overseas and collecting toys or knitting beanies for kids at St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Besides her faith and her career, Connie was devoted to her family and made sure that they were loved and taken care of. She never missed an event for her children or grandchildren. Some of her favorite things to do were spending time with her family and gardening.
In addition to her parents, Connie is preceded in death by her brothers, Timothy Smith and Terry Smith; sister, Sheila Pinion; and granddaughter, Megan Keedy.
Connie is survived by her husband of 31 years, Larry Hicks of Bono; son, Tim Burns of Jonesboro; daughters, Tiffeny Lovelace of Jonesboro, Katie Edlemon (Bubba) of Bono, Kim Keedy (Mack) of Cash, and Amy Deckard (Mike) of Walnut Ridge; grandchildren, William Keedy (Braden), Jillian Scott (Colton), Kailey Deckard, Jaden Deckard, Devon Lovelace, and Emma Rae Edlemon; and one great granddaughter, McKinley Scott.
The visitation will be held from 9-11 am on Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home.
The service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Emerson Funeral Home with Steve Cline officiating. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, 13770 Noel Road Suite 801889, Dallas, Texas 75380.
