Conner Taylor, 83, of Jonesboro, AR, died October 6, 2008 at Baptist Northeast Arkansas Hospital. He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and was active in the Jonesboro community where he had lived for 34 years with his wife Lula after living in Germantown, TN, and Blytheville, AR.
He was born the only child of the late Conner and Irene Hawks Taylor and raised in Marvel, AR. He has been a long time member of The Presbyterian Church where he had been both a Deacon and an Elder.
Visitation will be held at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. A private commitment ceremony will precede the Memorial Service which will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at the First United Methodist Church at 801 Main St. in Jonesboro.
Conner was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Jean Taylor. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Lula Montgomery Taylor, his daughter Susan Madonia Klein and husband, Frank of Bartlett, TN; son, Robert Montgomery Taylor and wife, Anne of Newark, DE; sister-in-law Kathleen C. Montgomery of Cordova, TN and five grandchildren: Chase Conner Madonia, Paul Taylor Madonia and Marc Richard Madonia of Memphis, TN; Ryan Montgomery Taylor of Wilmington, DE and Leigh Anne Taylor of Newark and many loving friends.
Conner played baseball at Arkansas State University, joined the Navy during World War II with his lifelong friend, the late Bill Hudson, and returned to graduate with a Business Degree from the University of Arkansas where he was Kappa Sigma, later becoming a life member of the fraternity.
Conner worked for 34 years as a salesman and territory manager with the Burroughs Corp. until he retired in 1986 then became a salesman for 16 years at the Continental Computer Corp. until he retired again in 2005. He was honored with various sales awards at both companies and is remembered by colleagues as a mentor of successful sales techniques.
Conner was also a two time Paul Harris Fellow of the Jonesboro Rotary Club where he was an active member until his death.
