Cleo Lewis, 83, of Jonesboro, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born in Dell, Arkansas, Cleo lived in the Dell community for most of her life before moving to Jonesboro in 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Baptist Church of Jonesboro where she attended the Deborah Wood Sunday school class. Cleo also hosted and taught a Bible study group in her home.
Cleo was a member and past president of the Gladiolus Garden Club in Jonesboro, a member and past president of the Dell Garden Club, a member and past president of the Blytheville Women’s Club, and a past member of the Mississippi County Fair Advisory Board.
Cleo went home to be with Jesus and to be reunited with her beloved family members: husband, Jack Lewis Sr.; daughter, Stevie Jean Henry; sister, Mona Gail Houston; and parents, Rev. Arthur Mitchell and Mary Hazel Hill Houston.
She will be deeply missed by her son, Jack Lewis Jr. of Athens, Georgia; her daughters, Kim Mauney (Morris) of Clinton, Mississippi, and Jill Lewis VanAusdall of Jonesboro; her brother, Jackie Houston of Enid, Mississippi; and her grandchildren, Matt Mauney (Emily), John Mauney, Rice Lee VanAusdall III, and Jessie VanAusdall.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in Central Baptist Church with Rev. Archie Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers include Jack Lewis Jr., Matt Mauney, John Mauney, Rice Lee VanAusdall III, Vic Houston, and Art Houston.
Honorary pallbearers include Don Jenkins, Tom Murrey, Don Barnes, members of the Cleo Lewis Bible study, and members of the Deborah Wood Sunday school class.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
