Clem E. Morgan, 65, of Jonesboro, passed away Thursday at his home in Jonesboro.
Clem was born in Jonesboro and lived most of his life here. He was a 1972 graduate of Nettleton High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams and was named All-District in football following the 1971 season.
Clem was a District Manager for Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company where he worked for 20 years. Following his career with L&M, Clem then worked 17 years for Premiere Marketing serving as Regional Manager over 5 states: Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas and Arkansas. After retirement, Clem and Jeanette purchased a home on Lake Norfork and Clem loved spending time there often giving weather reports and updates "On Top of the Mountain."
For many years Clem was an active volunteer in fund raising and marketing for March of Dimes. He received annual awards for 10 years of successful efforts along with national awards to help fund the March of Dimes local and the state chapters. Clem enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and often rode with groups in the area. He was the spokesman in the initial public service announcement of the "Look Twice-Save a Life" campaign which first appeared on KAIT Television then moved to regional and national markets.
Clem was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church and was a 32 degree mason in the Nettleton Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert (Bob) and Frances Morgan.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jeanette Cheshier Morgan of the home;
1 daughter and son-in-law: Dia and John Sawyer of Jonesboro;
1 son: Jonathan Morgan (Candy Crawford) of Mountain Home;
2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Johnny and Raye Morgan of Hartford, and Tommy and Gwen Morgan of Jonesboro;
A sister-in-law and her husband: Jerri and Stan McMillin of Jonesboro;
8 grandchildren: Caleb, Justus, Elliette, Lola, Jude, Eva, Keane and Sophie Sawyer; and
6 nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Craig Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Michael Morgan, Kevin Morgan, Stephen Morgan, Wayne McClard, Brad Barnett and John Sawyer.
