Christine Calvert

Christine Calvert went to be with the LORD on October 2, 2021. Irma Christine Calvert was born May 26, 1920, in Whitton, AR, to Earley and Lorene Calvert. She was preceded in death by her brother, Phillip Calvert, and her beloved Jackson cousins. Christine was an active member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church of Jonesboro.

After graduating from Marked Tree High School, Christine attended Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA) where she earned her teaching degree and went on to teach in the Luxora, AR schools. She earned her Master’s degree, and later her Ph. D. in Textiles and Clothing from Texas Woman’s University. Christine served as a professor at Appalachian State University and later at Eastern Kentucky University.

Christine was always involved in the Methodist women’s activities wherever she lived. While residing in Richmond, KY, Christine was a member of Bible Study Fellowship and completed every Bible study they offered.

During the latter portion of Christine’s life, she resided at Morningside Assisted Living where she enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, and participating in all the fun activities offered. She loved leading the group in both exercise and in devotionals. She flourished in her recently-developed skill of oil painting.

The family would like to thank the staff at Morningside and at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice for their loving care of Christine.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Ann Reginelli (Bruce), and Carol Nutt (Vic); great-nieces and nephews, Lee Nutt (Megan), Natalie Carroll (Ryan), Melissa Van Scyoc (Cody), Christopher Nutt, Brent Reginelli and Ryan Reginelli; great-great nieces and nephews, Ethan Carroll, Naomi Nutt, Levi Van Scyoc, Katelynn Carroll, Philip Nutt, Seth Van Scyoc, Rose Nutt, and Elsie Nutt.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at the Marked Tree Cemetery on Wednesday morning, October 6, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Study Fellowship, 19001 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, TX 78258.
