Charlotte Nell Eddington of Paragould passed from this life on February 27, 2024 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. Charlotte was born on July 30, 1934 to Jack and Nell Felkins in Spadra, Arkansas. Charlotte spent her entire adult life as a volunteer and advocate for people with disabilities. She contributed to the founding of the John T. Gray School (currently The Learning Center) and also the David E. Puryear Center of Jonesboro. In 2011, at the Ritz Carlton in New Orleans, Charlotte was honored to receive the Ethel Hausman Volunteer of the Year Award for her 38 years of volunteer service to the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) Association. Charlotte was recognized as a charter board member who helped found the UCP of Northeast Arkansas in 1972. She loved the UCP annual telethons and spent many hours fundraising to provide services and support to individuals with disabilities and their families. A UCP transition home in south Jonesboro was named in honor of Charlotte in acknowledgment of her good work and dedication to the organization. Charlotte’s other accomplishments include serving as the first woman appointed as a board member of Citizens Bank and receiving the Philanthropy and Friend Alumni Legacy Award from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.
Charlotte played softball and basketball in high school and was an avid tennis player for many years. She loved to cook for her family and holidays and birthdays were very important to her. Charlotte cherished life on her family farm where she spent much time with her loved ones.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack Felkins and three infant children.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dr. William Eddington of the home and her three sons, Wes Eddington (Debbie) of Jonesboro, David Eddington (Kellie) of Paragould and Paul Eddington (Lori) of Paragould. Charlotte is survived by three grandchildren Regan Realon (James) of Brookland, Nathan Eddington (Kayla) of Austin, Noel Eddington (Laddie) of Knoxville, TN and two great-grandsons Jackson and Oliver Realon. In addition, she is survived by her two step grandchildren Lydia Hoffman (Vernon) of Black Rock and Heath Hudspeth (Krystal) of Arkadelphia and step great-grandchildren, Collin, Josie, Caleb, Hunter, Ella, Devon, Harrison, Krickett, Bee and two step great-great-grandchildren, Elliot and Layla.
A visitation is scheduled at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Arkansas on Sunday, March 3 at 1 p.m. with a service beginning at 2 p.m. Minister Matt Knight will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlotte’s memory to the Northeast Arkansas Chapter of the United Cerebral Palsy of Arkansas.
