Charles E. Scallions, 90, of Jonesboro passed from this life Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at his home. He was born in Burdette, AR. in Mississippi County. Charles went into the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 in 1942. He was in WWII and the Korean War. He was stationed in San Diego, Ca. and served his time aboard the USS Union. Charles served until 1953 and came back to Jonesboro, where he met his future wife, Carolyn Lawson. They married on October 9, 1954. To this Union was born 5 children. Mr. Scallions worked for a number of years for the Old Broadaway Packing Co. as a route salesman. He later started his Auto Paint and Body Shop Business, restoring antique autos. Charles was the last of Charter Members of the original Arkansas Antique Car Club, formed in the late 50’s, in Paragould, AR. He was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Katie Hicks Scallions and grandparents.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Lawson Scallions and two sons, Chuck and Craig, three daughters, Carol, Charla, and Cheryl, all of Jonesboro, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, 2 step-granddaughters, and 6 step-great-grandchildren, his sister, Mary Scallions Harner, and one brother Bob Scallions of Mammoth Springs, AR. Lots of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, including his fishing buddy, Bill Cox.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 10:00 am in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Adrian Parker officiating. Burial will follow in McDaniel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, from 5-7 pm in Emerson Memorial Chapel.
