Charles “Howard” Minton, 88, of Jonesboro died Friday night, August 31, 2012 at his home. He was born and raised in the Bono area and moved back to Jonesboro 15 years ago, moving here from Long Beach, California. He retired from McDonald Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach. Howard was a Free and Accepted Mason, a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge. His love for music was evident and he as a lead guitar player for a band in Indiana and in California. He enjoyed going to music venues, the Bono Senior Citizens Center and always had his tape recorder in hand. Charles was an avid traveler and enjoyed touring the states in his motorhome. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Lucy Minton; two brothers, Jim Minton and Cecil Minton; one sister Jewel Malott.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Carole Minton, of the home; son, Jerry Minton and wife Kim of Acton, California; daughter, Brenda Chavez and husband, Al of Escondido, California; step-sons, B. J. Custard and wife Melanie of Overland Park, Kansas; Steve Custard and wife Erin of Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren, Amy Cappelletti, Tiffany Chavez, Blaine Minton, Sami Custard, Maggie Custard, Alura Custard, Lane Custard, and Deagan Custard; great grandchildren, Kayli Cappelletti, Austin Cappelletti, Brandon Cappelletti, Olivia Cappelletti, Sofia Cappelletti, and Gianna Cappelletti; and nieces Wanda Mills and husband, Randy of Harrisburg; Cecilia Minton and Lois Minton of Buena Park, California.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Melvin Davis officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Herman Cemetery with Al Chavez, B. J. Custard, Steve Custard, Randy Mills, Jerry Minton, and Larry Kious serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5-7 Wednesday night at Emerson Funeral Home.
