Charles "Lavon" Morgan

Charles “Lavon” Morgan, 78, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was born on January 9, 1937 in Bay to Bill and Lena Morgan. Lavon graduated from Bay High School in 1956 and he married the love of his life Loyce Flemon in 1957. He joined the Air Force shortly thereafter. Lavon retired after 22 years of service in the Air Force achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. During Lavon’s career he was stationed in Turkey, Thailand, Philippines, as well as in the United States. Lavon and Loyce moved back to Jonesboro in 1979, when he started working for ADT Security Systems. He was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. Lavon loved hunting, fishing, carpentry, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents: Bill and Lena Morgan; grandson, Daniel Lavon Morgan.

Lavon is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Loyce Morgan of the home; sons, Billy Morgan (Athena), Dan Morgan (Rhonda), and Steve Morgan (Cissy); brother, Tullos Morgan; grandchildren, Shalena Powell (Brandon), Nick Morgan, Amber Morgan, Casey Morgan, Brandon Morgan, Robert Morgan (Dawn), Christopher Morgan, Kori Reeves (Ryan), and Lucinda Morphew; great grandchildren, Claira Powell, Jennifer Elaine Morgan, and Ethan Reeves.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. N. Wayne Clark officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Keller’s Chapel Cemetery with the United States Air Force as acting pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers will be the Bay class of 1956, grandchildren, and Jimmy Barber.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 in Emerson Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 4000 Southwest Drive, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72404.
