Charles “Pepaw” Kersey, 91, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. Born in Zent, he had lived in Jonesboro since 1941. He was a retired miller from Riceland Foods after working for 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, and playing cards with family and friends. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Leotha Kersey of the home; his children, Darrell Ray Kersey, Sr., Bee Branch, Jerry Kersey, Jonesboro, Annetta Sharp, Cherokee Village; his brother Roy Kersey, Zent; and his sisters, Pauline Geater, Germantown, Mary Lou Nichols, Aubrey, and Helen Goodman, Brinkley. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Debra Walker, Durane Walters, Charlie Kersey, Angee Jones, Jarrod Kersey, Jeremy Kersey, Seani Gibson, Joshua Kersey, Autumn Thetford, and LaNissa Kersey; 23 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
His was preceded in death by his parents, William Roscoe & Lula Katherine Britton Kersey; a son, Bill Kersey; a grandson, Darrell Ray Kersey, Jr.,; and 9 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Sunday at Emerson Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Larry Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Kersey, Jarrod Kersey, Kelley Thomas Walters, Joshua Kersey, Matthew Walker, Jonas Kersey, Clayton Kersey, and Tyler Dawson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Summers, Lonnie Schales, Bill Stallings, and Leon Sharp.
The family would like to give special thanks to Drs. Brannon Treece, James Ameika, Tomasz Majewski, the 2nd floor nurses and rehab staff at St. Bernards Medical Center and Extended Family Home Health staff for the loving care they gave during the long illness.
Visitation will be Saturday 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
