Mr. Charles Dewayne Johnston, Sr., age 82, of Brookland, AR gained his angel wings on Friday, September 23, 2022. Charles crossed the rainbow bridge at home surrounded by those he loved. He was born April 20, 1940 in Goobertown, AR to the late Raymond and Ruth Johnston.
Charles was owner and operator of Johnston Plumbing Company for many years, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping at Lake Norfolk with family, and an annual elk hunt in Colorado for many years. Around 1980 Charles built a cabin at his favorite boating and fishing spot on Greer’s Lake. Charles loved cars, especially fast ones, was a great mechanic and well known for his ‘lead’ foot.
Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Betty Sue (Dean) Johnston, son Charles Dewayne Johnston, Jr., and brother Jimmy Dale Johnston. He is survived by his son Jeffrey Johnston, grandsons Dylan Johnston (Gabriella Edison), and Charles Samuel Johnston, granddaughter Alyssa Johnston, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, out-laws and friends.
Friends may visit at Emerson Memorial Chapel, Thursday, September 29, 2022 beginning at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Harold Russell and Bro. Rick Hathcoat officiating. Active Pallbearers will include Patrick Wheeley, Lee Lovins, Jerry Edison, David Lungsford, Allen Morgan, and Ethan Howard. Honorary Pallbearers will include all of his coffee shop friends. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery
In lieu of flowers the family asks for consideration of donations to the American Diabetes Association ( www.diabetes.org ) in memory of Betty or the American Cancer Society ( www.cancer.org ) in memory of Charles.
