Charles Harris, 84, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at his home on February 16, 2025. He was born February 24, 1940 to John and Myrtle Harris in Eastern Craighead County, Arkansas.
Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He attended Brookland Schools where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Wava. Together, they founded Harris Furniture in 1968. A family business that continues to be a staple in the Jonesboro community. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who spent many days at the Caulk Island Hunting Club, Taylor Bay on White River, and Toledo Bend Reservoir in Texas catching crappie. Charles was also a long-time member of Highland Drive Baptist Church where he was known for his legendary fish frys.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle Harris. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Wava Harris, who was by his side through every chapter of his life. He is also survived by their son, Charles “Keith” Harris (Rebecca) four grandchildren Brooke Hudson (Taylor), Mandi Gipson (Chris), Sarah Defries (Jon), and Brad Harris (Lynley), along with eight great-grandchildren (Caroline and Emma Hudson, Marleigh and Myles Gipson, Sophie and Audrey Defries, and Marshall and Maggie Harris), all of whom were the absolute light of his life.
A celebration of Charles’ life will be held at Highland Drive Baptist Church in Jonesboro on February 18th with visitation at 10a.m. and the service beginning at 11:00a.m. A private burial will be held following the service.
Pallbearers include Keith Harris, Brad Harris, David Blevins, Taylor Hudson, Chris Gipson, and Jon Defries.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pine Log Cemetery or Highland Drive Baptist Church.
