Charles E. “Chuck” Barnes Jr., 64, of Jonesboro died January 22, 2008 at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born on April 18, 1943 at Commerce, Oklahoma, Ottawa County and moved to Jonesboro in 1980, from Southern California. He was a member of the Greensboro Road Church of Christ retired from the Operating Engineers in Southern California, and also retired from truck driving. He worked several years as a heavy equipment mechanic for both John Deere and Case International.
He proudly served in the US Army for seven years, receiving his basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Barnes, Senior, one sister, Charlene Patterson and one grandson, DeAndre Barnes.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Bitha Viola Henry Barnes, of the home; sons, Edward I. Barnes and wife Donna of Benton, Arkansas; Michael Shepard, Arkadelphia, Arkansas; daughters, Bonita Garrabrant and her husband Will of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Teresa Clay, of Jonesboro; Shannon Barnes, Little Rock, Arkansas; mother Ethel Moore, Miami, Oklahoma; one brother, Tom Moore and wife Kim of Miami, Oklahoma;
He was PawPaw to ten grandchildren, Rose, Amanda, Amber, William, Heather, Caleb, Kristen, Nicholas, Devon; and PawPaw to three great grandchildren, Raven, Natalie, and Maliyah. To his host of nieces and nephews, he was larger than life. And his friends were too many to count. He will be severely missed. PawPaw is gone to be with his Lord and he said, "I will be waiting for you on the other side."
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 25, 2008, at the Greensboro Road Church of Christ with Bill Willard and Terry Joe Kee officiating and burial to follow at Nettleton Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are Mike Lane, Travis Moore, Marshall Lands, Doyle Campbell, Phillip Jones, Terry Campbell, Billy Campbell and John Robertson. Honorary pallbearers are the elders and deacons of the Greensboro Road Church of Christ. Visitation will be from noon until service time at the Greensboro Church of Christ.
