Charlene D. Palmer

January 19, 1926 — March 23, 2009

Charlene D. Palmer, 83, of Jonesboro, died Monday at SkilCare Nursing Center in Jonesboro.

Born in the Valley View community to Abe and Freddy Lynch Darr, Charlene lived in California from 1955-1980 before moving to Jonesboro. Charlene earned a Bachelor degree from Arkansas State University, a Master degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and a Doctorate degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She was professor of early childhood education for several years at Compton College in California.

Charlene was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church where she was active in United Methodist Women and formerly served as youth leader. She was a member in several professional organizations and was preceded in death by her husband, Paul William Palmer.

Survivors include:
1 daughter and son-in-law: Paula Ann and Greg Spurlock of Harrisburg;

1 son and daughter-in-law: Phillip Aden and Debbie Palmer of Sullivan, Missouri;

4 granddaughters: Jennifer Spurlock, Teresa Cooper, Stephanie Cowsert and
Stacy LeVart; and

4 great grandchildren: Briar Neal Sitzer, Amelia LeeAnn Sitzer, Lance Steven Cooper and Katherine Ginger Cowsert.

Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in Pine Hill Cemetery with Max Alexander officiating, with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers include: Tommy Hendrix, Joe Hendrix, Russell Hendrix, Bob Alexander, Mark Flemon, B.T. Griffin and Bob Hewitt.

There will be no visitation.
