Charlene Elizabeth Britton, 79, a lifetime resident of Lake City, passed away on January 1, 2025 at Lakeside Nursing Center. She was born on December 26, 1945 in Lake City to Jessie and Bessie Hopkins.
Charlene was of the Baptist belief and was a member of Refuge Baptist Church, where she enjoyed attending services and visiting with others. She was an excellent cook and was famous for her fried pies and chicken pot pie. Charlene liked to pass the time visiting yard sales and was always on the lookout for chickens and roosters for her collection. Above all else, Charlene loved spending time with her family, whom she cherished, and her beloved dog, Yogie.
In addition to her parents, Charlene is preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Britton; sisters, Christene, Lucille, and Evelyn; and an infant brother.
She is survived by her son, Stacy Britton (Sheila Major); daughter, Tracy (Bennie) Butler; brother, Everett Hopkins; sister-in-law, Paulette (Allen) Brown; six grandchildren: Taylor Emery (Charley Sipes), Jonathan (Ashley) Bowman, Paige (Joe) Conway, Eric (Tori) Butler, Amanda Manis, and Aaron Britton; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Lake City Cemetery (Old) at 2:30 p.m. with Alan Brown officiating.
Active pallbearers include: Jonathan Bowman, Eric Butler, Joe Conway, Steve Terrell, Tommy Eakins, Sam Smith, and Rob Love. Honorary pallbearers include: Bryson Butler, Tenley Emery, Joe Conway, Jr., Jace Leggett, Asher Bowman, and Henry Jarvis.
