Cecil Wavol Stevenson

September 17, 1925 — November 2, 2013

Cecil W. Stevenson, age 88, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Craighead County Nursing Home. Cecil was born in Jonesboro to John Wesley and Flora Minton Stevenson August 17, 1925. He worked for the US Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. He loved to fish and garden, ride his tractor and watch cowboy movies. He was also a bee keeper, cattleman, barber and a glass installer. Cecil served in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He was a disabled veteran and was instrumental in starting and active in working with a van program taking veterans to Little Rock and Memphis. He was a past National Commander of DAV and twice State Commander. He was also National Commander during the Nixon era. Cecil was a Sunday school teacher and member of Washington Avenue church of Christ.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Daniel and James (Bud) Stevenson.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lillian Taylor Stevenson of the home; son, Terry (Connie) Stevenson of Jonesboro; 2 daughters, Janice Reid of Jonesboro, and Jayne (Tom) Findley of Las Vegas; 1 sister, Pauline Moudy of Jonesboro; 4 grandchildren, Amy Stevenson, Jeff Reid, Kari Crawford and Jamie Damron and 6 great grandchildren and his special pet Ginger.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bro Kenneth Gossett officiating. Burial will follow at Old Enterprise Cemetery off of Hasbrook Road with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers include Dr. Richard Stevenson, Larry Stevenson, David Walker, Robbie Cook, Bill Montgomery, and Jeff Reid. Honorary pallbearers are Harland Wood, Sam Montgomery, Albert Richardson, Paul Calkin and the Elders and Deacons of Washington Ave church of Christ.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 5 at the Emerson Memorial Chapel from 5-7 pm.
