Cathryn Elizabeth Mcgaughey Griffin

March 23, 1921 — June 12, 2011

Cathryn Elizabeth McGaughey Griffin, 90 of Lake City died Sunday June 12, at N.E.A. Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

She was born March 23, 1921 in Lake City to Oliver and Rena McGaughey and married Jack Griffin in 1948. Cathryn was a business teacher at Dixie, Caraway and Lake City High School.

During her 30 years in education she prepared and sponsored countless students who won numerous state FBLA honors.

Other community involvements included chairman of Buffalo Island Beauty Pageants, various charity drives, assisted at the Lake City Museum, and was a lifetime member of the Lake City United Methodist Church.

Cathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Rena McGaughey and husband Jack Griffin.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Griffin of Las Vegas, Nevada and son, Kenny and Becky Higgins Griffin of Dacula, Georgia.

She has four grandchildren, Elizabeth Adams and Stephen Adams of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jack Griffin of Dacula, Georgia, Kathleen Griffin Hardin and husband Tyler of Macon, Georgia and one great grandchild, Ashley Adams of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday June 15, at the Lake City United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.

Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M. Tuesday June 14, at Emerson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John E. Griffin, Joe D. Griffin, Jack C. Griffin, Mark McGaughey, Greg Garner and Heath McGaughey.
