Cary C. Matthews, 58, a lifelong resident of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Thursday, December 23, 2022, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee. He was born in Jonesboro on February 16, 1964, to Bernard Monroe and Tommie Francine Matthews. He was the Chief Appraisal Officer for Farm Credit Midsouth. Cary was very active in community service, being a member of the Jonesboro Exchange Club, the investment club, ASU Redwolf Club and he was an avid fan and supporter Arkansas State University. Proudly volunteered for St. Jude S’travaganza annually. Cary loved spending time at Norfork Lake and Mountain Home where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. His wife, children and grandchildren were his most favorite pastime. He was very active in raising beef cattle, it was almost a hobby that turned into a fulltime job. He was the first person in Arkansas to hold both ARA and RPRA Appraisal certifications. He was on the board of Arkansas Appraisers and Licensing and Certification Board. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Julie Matthews, of the home; sons, Daniel Matthews and wife Audra of Walnut Ridge; Houston Matthews and wife Cesalee of Paragould; brothers, Danny Matthews of Bethesda, Arkansas; Tommy Matthews and his wife Sarah of Nashville, Tennessee; and Todd Matthews of Walnut Ridge; sister, Pana Matthews of Mountain Home; grandchildren, Haley, Zoey, Ryker and Rhett; and several nieces and nephews.
