Carrie Kersey Tinsley

Carrie Vangeline Kersey Tinsley, 96, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, August 5, 2006, at her home.

Born in Zent, Arkansas, Carrie was a resident of Jonesboro since 1937, moving with her husband and children in 1937. The oldest child was 21 years old and the youngest just 2 ½ years old when she was widowed. Carrie never remarried and devoted her life to her children. She was a housewife and a member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Tinsley was preceded in death by her husband: Charley Wheeler Tinsley; 1 daughter: Betty Gertrude Tinsley; 1 granddaughter: Karen Dobson; 2 grandsons: Terry Hal McDonald and Billy James McDonald; 1 great granddaughter: Stephanie Boyd; her parents: Roscoe and Lula Britton Kersey; 2 sisters: Birdie Lawson and Mady Kersey; and 4 brothers: James Kersey, John Kersey, Loyd Kersey and Richard Kersey.

Survivors include:

4 Sons and Daughters-in-law: Herman and Ermal Burton Tinsley, Harold and Carolyn Henderson Tinsley, Donald Tinsley, and Donnie Tinsley, all of Jonesboro;

3 Daughters and sons-in-law: Frances Dobson of Newport, and Mittie Lou and Bill Stallings, and Gretchen Coffey and Claude Pruitt, all of Jonesboro;

3 Brothers: Charles Kersey and Herbert Kersey, both of Jonesboro, and Roy “Snooks” Kersey of Zent, Arkansas;

3 Sisters: Pauline Geater of Memphis, and Mary Lou Nichols, and Helen Goodman both of Zent;

4 Grandsons: Ricky Dobson of Des Arc, Sonny Dobson of Newport, Roger Lee Coffey of Bean Station, Tennessee, and Charles Tinsley of Nashville, Tennessee;

7 Granddaughters: Charlotte Tinsley Grant, Marian Tinsley, Alyssa Tinsley Stevens, Kim Tinsley, and Ashley Tinsley Montgomery, all of Jonesboro; Julia Dobson Martin of Dallas, Texas, and Lesley Amy Tinsley Judd of Memphis;

8 Great Grandsons, 7 Great Granddaughters; and 1 Great, Great Granddaughter;

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Bill Willard officiating. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery.

Active pallbearers: Shannon Roberson, Shaun Roberson, Coalt McDonald, Kyle McDonald, Matt Boyd, Ricky Dobson, & Marian Tinsley Honorary Pallbearers: Rick Dobson, Sonny Dobson, Charles Tinsley, and Roger Lee Coffey.

Visitation will be Sunday evening 5-8 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
