Buren Ballard, 88, of Bay, died Monday afternoon at his home. He was born in Hodges, Alabama but had lived most of his life in Bay. He was a member of the Bay First Baptist Church where he served as deacon. At one time he was the chair of the deacons. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved farming; loved the smell of the dirt. Mr. Ballard was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Linda & Charles Ballard Glass, Jonesboro, Sherry Ballard Liggett, Bay; a sister, Mary Lou Ballard Williams and her husband Johnny, San Angelo, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Rebstock, David Glass, Amber Stone, April Liggett; great grandchildren, Jared Stover, Skye Stover, Caitlyn Glass, and Gibson Glass.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Ballard and his parents, Ben Harris & Melissa Nichols Ballard.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Bay First Baptist Church with Brother Danny Taylor officiating. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will take place on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hodges, Alabama.
Active pallbearers will be Lynn Scott, Elbert Bradford, Mike Bradford, Carbert Rodgers, Bobby Turman, Mark Travis, Randy Mink, Quillion Vincent, Brett Scott, Brandy Scott, Michael Ashlock, and David Carter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Loyd Nix, Bill Stone, Donny Liggett, Alton Holmes, Members of the Sure Shot Hunting Club, Randy Skaggs, and Alvin Hill.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Bay First Baptist Church.
