Bruce is survived by his wife, Linda Barnes of the home; his son David (Cynthia)
Barnes of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and grandchildren Zachary Barnes and Katie Barnes, both of Olive Branch, Mississippi.
Bruce married truly the love of his life, Linda Anne Huitt, 57 years ago on August 5, 1961.Bruce was arenaissance man for his time. He was an avid historian and reader, a trait he shared with grandson Zachary; and always had a “never-quit” attitude that he passed on to granddaughter Katie. He maintained a love of learning throughout his life. From sky-diving and scuba diving to producing beautiful stain glass creations and fused glass jewelry he was always striving to learn more and do more. His latest endeavor was making unique, one-of-a-kind knives. Most importantly, though, he shared his knowledge and creations with those around him.
Bruce was a charter member of the University Rotary Club and served as president in
1988-89. One of his most treasured roles was that of Boy Scout Master. He was Scout Master for Troop 6 at First United Methodist Church from 1971 to 1986. He attended Walking Woodbadge at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for several years as a Scout Master. Bruce also attended two World Jamborees, once as a Boy Scout and once as a Scout Master. He was an Eagle Scout. One of his proudest moments was when his son David also became an Eagle Scout. Bruce was as much at home hiking the Grand Canyon with Linda as leading Bible Study at Cornerstone. He will be missed.
