Brother Waymon Donald Holt

January 27, 1931 — August 2, 2016

Brother Waymon Donald Holt, 85 died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Walnut Ridge, AR. He was born to H.W. and Florence Hawkins Holt on January 27, 1931. He lived most of his life in the Milligan Ridge community where he pastored the Milligan Ridge Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. He dedicated his life to the service of the Lord and his sole purpose was to see people saved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, Christene White Holt; a grandson, Jake Holt; and 14 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Holt of Caraway and Donald Holt of
Jonesboro; a sister, Ludie Lewis of Dexter, MO; 4 grandchildren, Jared, Kailey, Adam and D.J. Holt and 6 great-grandchildren.
Brother Holt described himself as a “one-gallused”country preacher when he presented a message at the national meeting of the Baptist Missionary Association of America in the 1960s. Brother Holt preached the Gospel in hundreds of revivals throughout his career. The number of people he led to the Lord is in the thousands; but the number wasn’t important to him. It was his duty—he was a humble servant with a heart of gold. He surrendered to preach on the same day as his brother, Thurman in the mid-1950s. A few days after accepting the Lord’s call, he preached his first sermon. His subject was taken from Hebrews 6:1 “Let us go on unto perfection.”

Brother Holt loved music. His father taught the family to read shaped notes as children. He was a prolific songwriter and loved to sing for the Lord. He often sang “Pearly White City” and “Great Is Thy Faithfullness” for his church family. He is singing today.

Brother Waymon loved spending time with his family. He and his sons enjoyed hunting together. They went on several pheasant huntings trips. However, he never wavered in his mission to spread the Gospel wherever he went. It was foremost in his mind at all times.
