Brian Aubrey Corbett, 74, died at home on March 13 after a brief battle with cancer. Born in St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada, Brian was raised in upstate New York and attended Franklin Academy High School in Malone, New York. Music was a big part of his life. He, along with Ken Strout, Rick Saunders, Walt Morse and Duane Ellis, comprised the band “Sunrise”, a group that was highly recognized regionally in the late 1960s and 70s. In 2007, Brian and his bandmates were recognized for their significant contribution to music of the St. Croix Valley.
Brian served in the US Air Force for four years. He was stationed in Plattsburgh, NY, then in Guam. He was a member of the Calais American Legion, Sherman Brothers, Post 3 for many years. Brian lived the last years of his life in Bay, Arkansas. He developed a passion for golf early on and worked on his game prior to moving to Arkansas as a member of the St. Croix Country Club in Calais. He worked at the Jonesboro Country Club for 22 years from which he retired in 2019.
Brian is predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Ruth Corbett; his brothers, Robert Corbett, Daniel Corbett, Ross Corbett; and his sisters, Eleanor McPhee and Flora (Toad) LaPointe. Brian is survived by a daughter, Marcie Edwards (Jason), and a son, Kyle Corbett, as well as his former spouse and mother of his children, Carol Hollingsdale, all of Bangor, Maine; his grandchildren, Jessica Owens, of Baltimore, Maryland, Jayden Edwards of Ft. Worth, Texas and Isaac Corbett Wardwell of Elsworth, Maine; a sister, Sheri Egeli of Palm Coast, Florida; and his devoted, long-time companion, Mitzi Taylor, of the home.
