Brenda Kaye Sumpter

Brenda Kaye Sumpter, 57 of Jonesboro died on Sunday at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House.

Brenda was born on December 15, 1955 to the late Charles Smith Jr. and Peggy Terry Smith (Goodgion) in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She and her family have been living in Jonesboro area for the last 16 years, moving here from West Memphis. She was a homemaker, and was a member of Community Fellowship Church in Jonesboro. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and a best friend to many. She loved to laugh and always put others in her life first, and anyone that came into contact with her could see the love she displayed for others.

In addition to her father she was preceded in death by; paternal grandparents, Charles and Annie Smith Sr.; maternal grandfather; Andrew Jay Terry; and maternal grandmother, Louise Crossland.

She is survived by her loving husband, Terry Sumpter of the home; one son, Kevin (Sarah) Sumpter; one daughter, Heather (Husein) Merchant; three grandchildren; Madeline, Sam, and Beckett Sumpter; mother, Peggy Goodgion all of Jonesboro.one brother, Dennis (Tonya) Smith of West Memphis; two sisters, Donna (Gearey) Ammons and Shirley (Jackie) Miller all of Marion; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral service will at 10am on Wednesday in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dave Burgess and Josh Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.


Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7pm at Emerson Funeral l Home.
