Heaven received a new angel as Brenda Patton (Maddox), 63, soared into heaven. She entered into
eternal peace on Oct 3, 2015 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR after suffering
through many years of declining health.
Brenda was born on May 30, 1952 in Rives, MO to the late Anna and Lexie Patton. She graduated from
Kennett High School in 1970 and went on to Southeast Missouri State University where she graduated in
May 1974 with a degree in Education. She taught at various schools, before settling into Southland
Schools in Cardwell, MO where she exhibited her love for her students and teaching, especially
American History. Brenda received several awards during her teaching career, including Teacher of the
Year in 1995. It was not uncommon for a previous student to have an encounter with Brenda and
always hear how much they loved her!
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her loving sisters, Marsha Shivley and her husband
Joe of Poplar Bluff, MO and Karen Vardell and her husband Alan of Jonesboro, AR; her special nieces and
nephews Melodie Harp (Keith) and Matthew Vardell of Jonesboro, Ashley Shivley (Scott) of St. Louis,
Heather and John Shivley of Poplar Bluff, her special great nieces and nephews, Sophia Cross of St. Louis,
Kayla, Craig, and Will Alan Harp of Jonesboro. And two very special sister-cousins, Sharon Cerutti of St.
Louis and Sandy Rowland of Little Rock. She also leaves many other loving family members and friends.
Graveside services will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, MO on Oct 24 at 2pm. A celebration of
Brenda’s life will follow these services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St.
Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
