Brenda Stone Kimmel Mitchell went to be with the Lord Friday, June 14, 2024, after a lengthy and valiant battle with ovarian cancer.
Brenda was born on May 26, 1950, to Darrell and Hazel Stone. She was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro and always said there was no place in the world that she would rather live. She was selected as Miss Jonesboro in 1968 and proudly represented her hometown in the Miss Arkansas pageant later that year. After graduating from Jonesboro High School and Arkansas State University with a degree in Choral Music, Brenda taught music at Weiner Public Schools and then at Valley View Public Schools. Brenda loved her church and was a lifelong and a very proud active member of Walnut Street Baptist Church.
In 1981, Brenda became a licensed Realtor and opened her real estate company, Continental Properties. In 1984, she was elected President of the Jonesboro Board of Realtors and was selected as Realtor of the Year due to her service in the industry, both local and statewide. Brenda was instrumental in installing Jonesboro’s first Multiple Listing Service. In 1986, Robin Nix Associates purchased her company and later merged with Fred Dacus Associates. In the 1990’s Brenda worked with ASU as an instructor of real estate classes. Brenda began her position at Fred Dacus Associates as New Agent Trainer, later becoming an executive broker ad co-sales manager. In 2016, FDA was purchased by Steve Doty and became a part of ERA Doty Real Estate Company where she continued as executive broker and sales manager. At the ERA Doty office Brenda was referred to as the Fairy Godmother because she made every day a little brighter, made every person feel special and there was never a time that she couldn’t take a minute to answer a question or have a talk with someone. In 2000, construction began on The Cottages at St. Bernard’s Village and Brenda was chosen to assist in seeing that vision to the end. Near and dear to Brenda’s heart was to care for the elderly in the community, leading her to serve on the Board of Total Life Care for several years.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her son, David Kimmel Jr, and her infant grandson, Baby Boy Kimmel. She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Mike Mitchell, her sister Reba (Roy) Sherman, sons Slade (Mallery) Mitchell of Jonesboro and Eric (Rachael) Mitchell of Brentwood, TN and daughter-in-law Hardin Kimmel of Memphis. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Coleman and Garner Kimmel of Memphis, Susannah, Anders, and Rhett Mitchell of Jonesboro and Cole, Riley, Truman Mitchell and London Bradham of Brentwood.
The family would like to thank the professionals at St. Bernard’s Cancer Center of Jonesboro and West Cancer Center in Memphis for their exemplary care for the last six years. Also, a special thanks to Brenda’s dear friend, Diane Cottingham, for her help in caring for Brenda. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Walnut Street Baptist Church, 1910 Scenic Rd, Jonesboro, AR 72401, to Jonesboro High School Theater Boosters, 301 Hurricane Dr. Jonesboro, AR 72401, or to the charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 1st from 1:00-2:00pm at Emerson Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm with Grey Falanga officiating.
