Bonnie LaRue Colbert, 77, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
Born in Monette, Arkansas, Bonnie lived in Black Oak, Arkansas and St. Louis before moving to Jonesboro in 1967. She worked in the Business Office at Arkansas State University for several years before earning her Licensed Practical Nurses degree. Bonnie worked 26 years as an LPN in the George W. Jackson Mental Health Center and area nursing centers.
Bonnie was a member of First Assembly of God in Trumann, a Hospice volunteer for 4 years and a grandma to Greenleaf adolescents for 11 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Birktrum and Carrie Vowell Herndon, and a brother, Sonny Herndon.
Survivors include 3 daughters: Nancy Blackwell of Dyess, Ruby “Dutch”
Crow (Steve) of Hobart, Oklahoma, and Phyllis Colbert of Mammoth Spring;
1 son, Walter Colbert (Peggy) of Jonesboro;
2 sisters, Robin Timmerman of Antaim, Arizona, and Bonnie Gregg of Goldendale, Washington;
2 brothers, Johnny Rickman and Terry Herndon, both of Jonesboro; and
6 grandchildren: Ricky Blackwell, Jr., Kristy Blackwell Birmingham, Johnathan Moore, Jodi Moore, Justin Lingenfelter and Deana White Freeman.
Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Doke officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers include Mark Poe, James Poe, Elvis “Brother” Poe, Andy Poe, Walter Colbert and Ricky Blackwell, Jr.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening, 6-8, at Emerson Funeral Home.
