Bonnie Forbess Obituary Bonnie Irene Forbess, a beloved sister, aunt and friend passed away on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022 at the age of 104 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Bonnie is survived by 8 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews and some great grand nieces and nephews. Bonnie was born on January 4, 1918 to Joe and Pearl Ophelia (Pitman) Forbess in Trumann, Arkansas.
Her mother passed away from the Spanish flu when Bonnie was only 9 months old and she was raised by her Uncle Gordon and Aunt Effie Forbess. Although she always knew that they were her aunt and uncle, she considered them to be her parents and they always considered her as their daughter. Bonnie graduated from Trumann HS, attended Arkansas State for two years, and began work as a math teacher in Trumann. She later moved to South Bend, IN to join the war effort. With her background in math, Bonnie was hired to tabulate test data for aircraft engines in the Studebaker plant. She was the only woman in the group. After the war she moved to Memphis, TN where she resided until 2012. Bonnie worked at the Hotel Peabody for 35 years, filling a variety of positions. She often left her job to travel, sometimes with friends, but often solo, throughout the United States and Europe. The Peabody always welcomed her back when she returned from her adventures. After retiring from the hotel, Bonnie continued to travel. In her late 70’s, she traveled to China soon after Americans were permitted to do so and fulfilled a wish she had held for many years.
Bonnie enjoyed a long life well-lived! She will be missed by many people. At her request there will be a private family service.
