Bobby F Snider

January 31, 1936 — January 31, 2021

Bobby “Bob” Frank Snider, 85, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Bob was born on January 31, 1936 at home in Prairie County, AR to Elizabeth and W.B. “Bob” Snider.   He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1955 where he was an outstanding athlete and excelled in track and field, football, and baseball.  Rather than accept a track scholarship to the University of Arkansas, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Peggy Jo’Ann Loftis of Carlisle, and started a family.  Following two years of service in the United States Army with an eighteen month tour in Germany, Bob settled in Little Rock, AR with his young family where he began a career that spanned for thirty-eight years with OTASCO (Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company). Jonesboro, AR became home for the Snider family in 1969 when Bob was relocated to manage the OTASCO store on Main Street.  He and his wife Peggy raised five children and were active members in North Main Baptist Church for more than twenty-five years, and then went on to become members of Magnolia Road Baptist Church.  Bob had many hobbies throughout his life– he played softball, coached his sons’ little league baseball and football teams, hunted, fished, and gardened.  However, he was most well known for his most passionate hobby – raising Walker Hounds and fox hunting.  Bob loved showing his most prized hounds at field trials, and kept quite a collection of trophies on display for bragging rights.  He claimed he knew his hounds by their howls and barks as they ran through the woods treeing their prey.   He also enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports, and watching his beloved baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals play on TV.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Peggy Jo’Ann Snider; son, Bobby Lance Snider; granddaughter Michelle Brooke Meredith; and great-grandson Silas McClain Holeman all of Jonesboro; parents Walter Brooks and P. Elizabeth Snider of Carlisle; brothers Herbert Snider of Hazen and Teddy Snider of Blytheville.

He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Keith) Meredith of Jonesboro, and Robin (John) McQuay of Walnut Ridge; two sons, Brad (Denise) Snider and Butch (Brandi) Snider of Jonesboro; three granddaughters, Hailie (Kirk) Merrill, Morgan (Hunter) Hoyt, and Farrah Snider, of Jonesboro; nine grandsons, Brandon (Sarah) Meredith, Andy (Ashley) Snider, Tate Snider, Chase (Brittany) Holeman, Baylee Snider of Jonesboro, Winn (Alley) Meredith of Heber Springs, Reed (Paige) Snider and Brooks Snider of Colorado Springs, CO and Alex Holeman of Taylor, MS;  six great-grandchildren, Max and Dylan Meredith, James Snider, twins Kenner and Brightlee Meredith, and Beckett Snider; three sisters, Hallie (Milton) Stovesand of Stuttgart, Loretta (Billy) Marcotte, and Pam (Don) Walter of Carlisle, and many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 pm, Wednesday, February 3 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.  A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 4 at the Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, AR.
