Bob (Robert L.) Smith, 79, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. He was born to the late LaPrelle and Ersel Smith on November 21, 1938 in Trumann. Robert joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Trumann High School. “Captain Bob” retired from the Jonesboro Police Department after 30 years of service to the Jonesboro community. After retirement, Robert joined the Craighead County Sheriff’s Department for a few years before becoming a dispatcher for the Arkansas State Police. Robert had many passions in life. His love of God and faith in Jesus Christ was lived out each day in service to his church and others. He truly loved football, particularly watching college football any chance he could get, but his main passion was watching his grandson Jack play high school football. Jack was the apple of his eye. Bob joins his one and only sweetheart, wife of over 50 years Shirley Dunkerson Smith in heaven.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Tammy Fowler (Tony) of Jonesboro; grandson, Jack Fowler of Jonesboro; and several beloved nieces and nephews and dear friends.

The visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
